Tyler Coupling Team Member Mike Pressman

Understanding bird conservation means understanding ecology.   Wild birds are an integral part of the
ecosystem and serve many important purposes, including:

  • Insect and rodent population control
  • Distribution of seeds that leads to forest conservation
  • Food sources for bird predators

By studying and conserving birds, we can better understand the relationships between all living things on our planet and how the interactions of those relationships can affect humans directly.  At Tyler Coupling they are lucky to have lots of birds around the manufacturing facility and they came up with the idea to hold a birdhouse building contest.

These were the categories:

  • Best “green” birdhouse made with recycled or reused material ($50 prize)
  • Best combination of style/function in a birdhouse ($50 prize)
  • People’s choice for overall best birdhouse ($50 prize)

The votes are in and Mike Pressman’s birdhouse won the prize for both the Best Combination of Style/Function and the People’s Choice for overall best birdhouse.  James Christian was awarded the prize for the Best “Green” Recycled Birdhouse.

The birdhouses will be displayed around the Tyler Coupling facility to give shelter to their feathered friends.
